CGSociety spoke with Mark Stetson, VFX Supervisor for
Superman Returns. Stetson reveals the footage he used in his demo reel for Academy voters.
"We had to show the bullet in Superman’s eye," he says, referring to a shot created at The Orphanage during the bank heist. "I cut Superman’s fight with Lex Luther," he says, "and instead went from Lex stepping out onto the ledge all the way to the cliff side where Superman falls off. We have a close-up of his face when he starts to fall. I'm sure no one knows that's a digital shot."

what was that all about?
Superman Returns should win this award hands down--What other movie in this catagory was described by the critics and numerous others in the industry as "Visually Breathtaking"? And they weren't just talking about Brandon :-) BREATHTAKING!! What greater compliment is that? I don't think people realize just how much work and creativity it took to make this movie. Yes, there is some pretty stiff competition, but really, Superman Returns is the most beautiful movie, and most skillfully executed--you really believed that what you where seeing was "real" and what we saw was a masterpiece. There were so many brilliant special effects in this movie--almost every scene had something that blew you away. Just amazing...
I agree w/ you Danny. Superman Returns had many FANTASTIC effects in almost every scene. AND IT BLEW ME AWAY. I think SUPERMAN RETURNS SHOULD definitely WIN the award. SUPERMAN ROCKS!!!!!!!
I agree with my 2 previous posters. It should win and hopefully this other movie, which was maybe more successful but not made with so much heart, will not win it.
it's LUTHOR, not luther. :(
