"Superman vs. Batman" Update

Thursday, July 06, 2006 by Iris with
MTV interviewed director Bryan Singer who said that he has contemplated on a head-to-head superhero film with DC Comics' top 2 characters. Brandon puts in his two cents on how he'd like this potential film to be:
"I don't think we should go toe-to-toe, unless one of us is deranged somehow by some mind-altering drug," he laughed. "We shouldn't be fighting each other; we should be combining forces [...] I don't think Batman really, really wants to go and mess with Superman."

i don't think they should do it unless they find a credible, believeable way. Superman and Batman have fought in the comics a few times, but as Brandon mentioned, it was usually because one of them was drugged, brainwashed, or one of their priorities were so totally screwed up that the other had to "knock some sense into them."

i heard Wolfgang Peterson's idea for the movie, and it just didn't sound like it would be believeable. Peterson wanted Bruce to give up being Batman and get engaged a woman, and Bruce's fiancee is accidentally killed during a trip to Metropolis, so Bruce becomes Batman once again and goes after Superman because he blames Supes for her death. the problem lies in the fact that Bruce Wayne wouldn't give up being Batman for a woman since he loves Gotham more than anything unless, as earlier stated, he was brainwashed or drugged, which has happened in the comics. but for Bruce to give up being Batman on his own for a woman? highly unlikely.

Right, besides the fact that Batman can't hurt Superman without Kryptonite or hurting the people that Superman cares about...

I don't understand why there is ever a comparison. Batman is a billionaire with a crafty vigilante type human hero routine. Superman is freaking SUPERMAN!!! He is an alien from another planet who lives on earth like a god. The thing that makes all the difference is that he is good, as good as any one can get.

I"ll take a farm boy with high moral values to a severly traumatized, costume wearing billionare anyday.

The Superman vs Batman plot is absolutely ridiculous. They're DC's top heros, and while I can see where there would be some competition, Gotham and Metropolis are managed differently, thankyouverymuch. It would be fun if they teamed up, though, to fight Joker and Lex :P

i agree with Brandon, i dont think they should fight in a movie...its true, "batman, dont mess up with superman" or should i say "human, dont mess up with an alien" LOL. i mean batman cant beat superman unless he wears a kryptonite costume or something. but i love to see them both in a movie someday, both fighting the evil forces ;-)

well comic wise...it happend...and batman saved our blue and red hero. I think it would be a good adventure! Just use the same actor who was in the last batman!!!

Hi Gang -

The only way this could possibly work is if they would essentially do a live-action version of the "World's Finest" 3-part episode in the "Superman" animated series from the 90s.

No one potentially involved really know's how to make this work for one reason: the "VS." is the problem.

In "World's Finest" the villains are right there - Lex Luthor teaming up with the Joker.

Anyway, I say let each of the film series run on their own for a good while. Brandon and Co. did an amazing job on "Returns." Thanks!

Superman and Batman could never fight against each other! It would just be wrong..like one of those annoying soap operas that always does something wrong in the middle of the show. It would alter everything we know and have grown to love!!! Besides, Brandon's right, Batman doesn't want to mess with Superman. Kids need heros to stay heros and not turn just because adults need more money.

I agree with brandon on this, batman and superman fighting against each other doesn't work. It won't be no clash of the titans and a waste of time on superman's part, unless batman uses kryptonite than the movie waste itself. They should team up an fight they're arc enemies joker and lex luthor in a all out battle...now that's a movie for the top two icon heros of D.C.
